You will find modular plugs here that have been specially designed for smaller conductors ranging from 26AWG to 28AWG. It is common to use slim patch cords for high-density deployments. And when you assemble a patch cord with 28AWG cable, the insulations and conductors inside the cable are relatively smaller than the regular ones. It is recommended to use “small conductor” plug in order to steadily seat the wires and ensure conductivity.

A typical 28AWG UTP cable has 0.69mm insulation diameter with nominal cable O.D. from 3.5mm to 4.8mm. The 8-position groove inside the plug housing is made to accept from 0.7mm to 0.8mm insulated conductors. In addition, the 3-prong blades further enhance the certainty of piercing the ultra slim cable so excellent conductivity can be assured.
