The SMBKA Series is HCI’s latest innovation in surface mount box design, offering both 1-port and 2-port models, with or without doors.
We studied countless models on the market and dug into their common flaws. While many boxes may look alike, what sets SMBKA apart is its ability to accommodate a wide range of keystone jacks - even across different brands. We put in the work to overcome the usual limitations in jack size. Whether the jacks are wider, taller, or longer than standard, SMBKA is built to secure them firmly in place.
Another standout feature is our garage-door-style retractable lid (U.S. Patent Pending), engineered to stay out of the way - when patch cords with bulky boots are connected.

Garage-Door-Style Lid
The unique garage-door lid swings up and tucks away inside. What does that mean for users? Take a look at legacy boxes with front-swinging doors - commonly seen in the market. When a patch cord is plugged into the jack inside, the door often gets in the way when you try to unplug it, leaving no room for your finger to press the plug’s locking tab. With the SMBKA series, that hassle is gone as the door neatly restores inside and stays out of the way.
Flush-Fit with Booted Patch Cords
Not every user is aware that keystone jacks come with different locking notch designs - the part that locks the plug in place. Legacy boxes often have thicker sidewalls that stop booted patch cords from fully plugging in, which means the locking tab can’t properly engage with the jack’s locking notch. The garage-door-style lid solves this by tucking itself away, keeping the jack flush with the box surface and preventing any sidewall-to-boot interference.
Compact and Streamlined
HCI’s SMBKA Series surface mount boxes are designed to blend into your workspace. With a slim, streamlined profile, they avoid unnecessary bulk and fit neatly onto desks, walls, or furniture surfaces. They’re ideal for fast deployment of network drops without opening walls, extending access when a fixed port is out of reach, or adding data and voice connections beyond concealed wiring. They’re simply more compact, and that makes a difference.
Small Outside, Roomy Inside
The SMBKA Series may look compact, but its interior is carefully engineered to handle larger keystone jacks, including shielded and non-standard types. It offers broad compatibility with jacks from various brands, not just standard sizes. By addressing common clearance issues, the design ensures that even wider(up to 20.8mm), taller(up to 24.1mm), or extended-length(up to 46.5mm) jacks can be installed securely and without hassle.
Built-In Cable Saddle with Underpass
The cable saddle is precisely curved to match the contour of the cable resting above it. This allows the cable to sit properly without being forced into sharp bends, preventing signal reflection issues that could affect Return Loss performance. Under the saddle is a true cable tie underpass where the tie head can enter one side and exit the other. This makes strain relief quick and secure, which is also important for keeping Return Loss performance stable.
Built for Large Cable
The wide opening accepts all standard Ethernet cables, including Cat 6A shielded and unshielded up to 9mm in diameter, with no need for trimming or forcing. The arched entry aligns with the cable’s axis to ensure optimal strain relief between the cable and jack. An optional embedded magnet allows quick attachment to metal surfaces without drilling, making it ideal for both temporary setups and permanent installations.
No Tools Needed
Just a simple press and the cover pops open. This tool-free design is perfect for IT staff and field installers handling on-site terminations or swapping out jacks on the fly. To open the hinged ID cover, just lift it with your fingernail - no tools needed. The larger ID window fits 10mm printed station labels, so you can clearly apply station names, color-coded tags, or even QR codes, making it easier to manage large networks with multiple endpoints.
Label Zone for Port ID or Logo
A designated 10×16.5mm area on the front face provides space for visual identifiers such as company logos or port ID labels. Having two distinct ID areas per port - one on top and one on the bottom - helps IT personnel trace IP assignments more efficiently. One label can identify the work area or the connection to CP, while the other can reference the telecom room side, supporting double verification during site works or future troubleshooting.
