In a market still dominated by Cat 6 copper cabling, the transition to Cat 6A is progressing slowly. Interestingly, we’ve observed that users opting for Cat 6A often choose shielded solutions over unshielded ones. This shift makes sense, as shielded cabling effectively mitigates EMI—an ongoing challenge for unshielded systems. As data rates climb from 1Gbps with Cat 6 to 10Gbps with Cat 6A, the impact of EMI, including alien crosstalk, becomes impossible to overlook. While optical fiber has gained traction in data centers, 10G networking remains more than sufficient for all but hyperscale operations.

HCI’s SP482M maximizes efficiency by packing 48 ports into 1RU, ensuring every inch of space is utilized without compromise. In data centers, where every rack unit is priceless, this high-density panel pushes the limits of capacity. For optimal performance, pair the SP482M with LKVAS Series Keystone Jacks for IDC-to-RJ45 connections (illustrated as “C1”) or KICS Series Couplers for RJ45-to-RJ45 feed-through connections (illustrated as “C2”).
Freedom from Tight Width Rules
To balance compatibility and panel rigidity, we’ve set the width limitation for loaded jacks at 17.40mm and the height limitation at 22.10mm. Considering the close spacing, die-cast exteriors are the way to go for top-notch EMI shielding, outperforming brass or stainless-wrapped plastic housings. HCI’s LKVAS Series Keystone Jacks and KICS Series Couplers are perfectly suited for this design, providing reliable airtight EMI performance.
